Sick Leave Checklist

If you are sick, don’t work, but please do your best to inform and organize things to minimize the impact as much as possible. To ensure all your duties are covered during your sick leave, you can follow this checklist.

Checklist on Sick Day

  • Inform your team and peopleops@vshn.ch immediately.

  • Follow the Being Away Checklist as soon as possible, depending on how long you are away. If you’re unable to do so, at least inform a team member who can do most of that for you – we help each other in such situations.

  • If you are sick for more than 3 consecutive days, you need a doctor’s certificate ("Arztzeugnis"). See Sick Leave Time Off.

Prolonged Sick Leave

  • Optional: While legally you are not required to tell us the reasons, nor are we allowed to ask, we still value it if you let us know whether and what we should communicate internally.

  • Good to know: For longer absences (several weeks or months), we may situationally and temporarily lock your VSHN accounts, so you don’t feel the need to check in, for security reasons, and to prevent uncoordinated communication. This is not a disciplinary measure and has no implications on your employment contract.

When Returning to Work

  • Make sure your time off for the sick leave is requested and approved in Odoo before the timesheet is submitted for that month.

  • Do the rest of the Being Away Checklist.

  • If you have a doctor’s certificate ("Arztzeugnis"), attach it as a "Supporting Document".

  • When you return from a prolonged sick leave, you must contact People Operations department on your first day back at work (via a Zoom call or in person). This will help us to coordinate administrative procedures, bring you up to date with any developments that have occurred during your absence and, where necessary, organize measures such as a phased return to work.

General Considerations

Planned doctor’s appointments and medical consultations are generally not considered work time. See Medical Consultation Time Off.
