VSHN Offerings - Portfolio Overview

This page describes the VSHN offerings (targeted at VSHNeers), the rationale behind them, and the benefits each offering provides to our customers. These offerings are a consequence of our identity.

Product Offerings

Products are well-defined, proactively developed, and optimized to meet the needs of a target customer segment. They are reproducible and ideally provided via self-service.

Integration of VSHN Products—if not performed by the customer themselves—is handled within the scope of Custom Solutions.

Managed OpenShift

Managed OpenShift is VSHN’s product offering for operating Red Hat OpenShift clusters on behalf of customers, across any infrastructure. We chose OpenShift because it combines the flexibility of Kubernetes with a powerful developer platform—but it comes with high operational complexity.

Our mission with Managed OpenShift is to make enterprise-grade Kubernetes available wherever our customers need it—even in places where it’s not natively supported. By operating Red Hat OpenShift on any infrastructure—public cloud, private hosting, or on-premises—we help organizations adopt Kubernetes without needing to build deep in-house expertise. We take care of the platform lifecycle: provisioning, updates, monitoring, backups, and 24/7 support, all covered by SLAs.

We’ve gained deep expertise by managing a large number of OpenShift clusters across diverse environments. This operational knowledge is a key differentiator and allows us to deliver higher quality than teams operating only a few clusters in isolated contexts.

This product plays a strategic role in our portfolio—it demonstrates our Kubernetes know-how, enables long-term customer relationships, and differentiates us in the managed services space.

Application Catalog

The Application Catalog (AppCat) is our portfolio of cloud-native managed services, available on APPUiO, Managed OpenShift, and Servala.

It includes industry-standard auxiliary services needed for most software (for example databases, caches) and custom SaaS offerings provided in collaboration with partners.

APPUiO

Developers should always have immediate access to a hosting environment for their applications. APPUiO provides this as a Namespace-as-a-Service offering with shared Red Hat OpenShift clusters, based on Managed OpenShift. Access is available via full self-service and self-sign-up.

APPUiO unlocks Red Hat OpenShift and its advantages, without its complexity. Developers interact with the Kubernetes API and deploy their apps—no need to manage infrastructure.

Servala

Servala has two key audiences: Software Vendors and Cloud Providers (or Private Enterprise Clouds).

Software Vendors
  • Enable self-service availability of their software.

  • Provide tooling to simplify this process.

  • Offer access to multiple sales channels through Servala integration.

Cloud Providers and Private Enterprise Clouds
  • Enhance their portfolio with added value services.

  • Offer additional services via full self-service.

  • Enrich their offering with a wide range of third-party software.

We already provide many services via Servala through the Application Catalog.

Previously named "VSHN Application Catalog", it’s now called Servala ("Service? Voilà!").

Custom Solutions

While VSHN aims to offer self-service platforms via its Products, many customer use cases go beyond these. Architecting or complex integration is often required to meet business needs.

To address this, we deliver Solutions: purpose-built combinations of products, reusable IT components, and professional services (engineering, consulting, support).

Terminology
  • A Solution addresses the gap between existing products and the customer’s technical needs.

  • A Building Block (BB) is a modular component of a solution—a reusable service or support unit.

Solutions are built from four types of Building Blocks
  • 🟦 Managed Standard Software – managing (open source) software on Kubernetes or Linux servers.

  • 🟨 Custom Software Support – supporting developers in building, deploying, and running their software, with ownership remaining with them.

  • 🟩 3rd-party Services Support – assisting in using SaaS/cloud services with partial operational support.

  • 🟥 VSHN Product – incorporating VSHN Products where applicable.

Enabling and Supplementary Offerings

Support

Customers using Products or Custom Solutions are entitled to Support. We provide hands-on assistance to help them use our offerings effectively. Our Support Plans ensure availability, guaranteed response times, and support in critical situations.

Engineering

As part of Custom Solutions, we offer engineering services to build the missing pieces (when feasible and within scope) to deliver a complete solution.

Engineering focuses on integrating VSHN Products into Solutions—aiming for long-term partnerships, where we jointly operate or support known systems.

Cloud Native Consulting

During the Sales Process and within existing Custom Solutions, we offer consulting: system reviews, conceptual design, architecture, and decision-making support.

Our consulting focuses on long-term relationships, not one-off engagements. Ideally, consulting leads to product onboarding or solution building.

Consulting offers customers expert guidance to leverage complex cloud-native technologies, especially when they lack in-house expertise. It empowers informed strategic decisions.

Support Plans

Support Plans define collaboration terms: support availability, response times, rates, and communication channels.

They apply to customers using recurring VSHN services via Products or within Custom Solutions.

Reselling

We resell selected partner products either as enablers (for example cloud infrastructure) or as an independent offering. These vendors operate in markets aligned with VSHN.
