Events

VSHN organizes and supports various types of events, from social gatherings to work-related conferences. This page clarifies what counts as work time and what does not, and how work-related content during events is handled.

Company-wide and team/role social events are leisure time and by default not work time, so attendance is not recorded as worked hours (see What Counts as Work Time). Workshops or other work content during such an event must be explicitly planned and time-boxed as part of the event and require consent from the team’s or role’s delegator, or via the People Operations Role for company-wide events.

Company-wide Events

VSHN aims for four company-wide events per year. These are usually planned, or at least approved by the People Operations role, but everyone is welcome to bring in ideas and suggestions for topics, formats, or activities, or take over planning.

Team / Role Events

Every VSHNeer has CHF 100 per quarter per year to have fun with their colleagues to build social interaction and team connection (see Employee Benefits). To request this budget, follow the process described in Personal Budget Approvals.

Work-related Events

Some events are clearly part of normal work and are recorded as worked hours. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending a conference or meetup as speaker on behalf of VSHN

  • Networking events organized to create customer leads, as decided in marketing, sales, or community measures

  • VSHN-requested training or certification attendance

  • VSHN all-hands meetings

  • VSHN Connect

These are normal work with a clear goal and follow standard expenses rules. They are planned in advance, including the budget for work-time and expenses, with the responsible role as stakeholder of the event, such as Marketing, SDR, Sales, Account Management, or the VSHN Connect Host.

Attending Conferences and Meetups

Attending a conference or meetup as a participant, without a clear work goal, is not work time by default. If there is a relevant learning or networking benefit for your role or team, you can use your individual education budget to cover the costs.
